Compo Turbo

Privacy policy

Compo Turbo is built to work offline, with no account. This page explains what the app stores, the permissions it asks for, and the few times information leaves your phone, always because you chose it.

Last updated 26 October 2026

01

The short version

  • No account. You don't sign up, and we don't ask for your name, email or date of birth.
  • Your rides stay on your phone. Settings, rides and paired devices are stored in the app's private storage. We don't run a server that receives them, except for the optional AI features described below.
  • Health data is shared only when you say so. Rides go to Health Connect (or Apple Health) only if you switch it on. The app never reads your health data.
  • AI is optional. The AI features send only what each one needs, and only after you agree.
  • Ads only if you choose. The only ad is a short video you can choose to watch before some AI requests. There are no banners, and no ads during a ride.
  • We never sell your information and we never use health or ride data for advertising.

02

Who we are

Compo Turbo is an indoor cycling app for smart trainers, made by Richard Booth, trading as CompoID (“we”, “us”). Under UK and EU data protection law, we are responsible for how the app handles your information.

You can contact us about privacy at any time: admin@compo-app.com.

03

What the app stores on your phone

To work, Compo Turbo keeps the following on your device. None of it is sent to us.

Your settings
FTP, weight, display units, colour theme, text size, ride options such as the floating ride controls, and whether you've finished setup and seen the app tour.
Your rides
When each ride started and ended, the workout you rode, and second-by-second power, cadence, heart rate, speed and target power. Also the totals worked out from them, such as average power, TSS and energy.
Training plans
If you build a plan with the AI features: your answers to the plan form, the plan itself and how each planned ride felt, if you said.
Your AI and ad choices
When you agreed to the AI features, the random install ID they use, and your answer to Google's ad consent form (stored by Google's consent tool on your phone).
Paired devices
The name and Bluetooth address of your trainer and sensors, so the app can reconnect to them automatically.
Ride recovery files
While you ride, a short-lived file keeps the ride safe if the app is closed. It's deleted once the ride is saved.
Exported files
When you export a ride, the FIT file is written to the app's temporary folder and replaced the next time you export.

04

Permissions we ask for

Bluetooth
To find and connect to your smart trainer, power meter, heart rate monitor and cadence sensor.
Location
Android 11 and older only. Android requires it before an app can scan for Bluetooth devices. Compo Turbo never reads or stores your location. On Android 12 and newer, location isn't requested.
Notifications
To show live ride stats while you ride and keep the ride running when the screen is off or you switch apps.
Health Connect
Optional, and write-only: to save your finished rides to Health Connect. See the health policy.
Apple Health
iPhone only. Optional, and write-only: to save your finished rides to Apple Health. See the health policy.
Display over other apps
Android only, and optional: to show the floating ride controls over other apps while you ride, if you switch them on in Settings › Ride. On iPhone the same controls use a Live Activity on the Lock Screen, which you can turn off in the iPhone's Settings.

You can withdraw any permission at any time in your phone's settings.

05

When information leaves your phone

Only when you choose to do something that needs it:

  • Health Connect and Apple Health. If you switch it on, each finished ride is written to the health app on your phone. Details are in the health policy.
  • AI features. Only if you agree on the AI consent screen and use one of the AI features. The request is sent to our server and then to an AI provider. See AI features.
  • Ads. When the app opens, Google's consent tool quietly checks whether ad consent is needed where you are; no form is shown then. An ad is loaded when you open the AI features, if your consent allows it, and shown only if you choose to watch it. See Advertising.
  • Exporting a ride. EXPORT FIT opens your phone's share sheet. The file goes only where you send it, such as Strava, Garmin Connect, your email or cloud storage, and that service's privacy policy then applies.
  • Sending feedback. SEND FEEDBACK opens a draft in your own email app. It includes the app version and your phone's operating system so we can reproduce problems. You can edit or delete any of it before sending. We use your email only to reply and to fix the problem, and we delete it when it's no longer needed.
  • Phone backups. If you have Android backup or iCloud Backup turned on, your phone may include the app's settings and rides in its backup. Backups are handled by Google or Apple under your account and settings, not by us.
  • Links. Links in the app, such as this page, open in your browser.

06

AI features

Compo Turbo can use AI to suggest a workout, build or change a training plan, and search your rides. These features are optional. They are off until you agree on the AI consent screen, and the app never calls the AI service before then.

What is sent. Only what the feature you use needs:

  • Suggest a workout: your FTP, today's date, a summary of your rides from the last 42 days (date, minutes, TSS, intensity, workout and category), your fitness, fatigue and form numbers, your wish if you type one, and the workouts already suggested if you ask for another.
  • Build a plan: your answers to the plan form (goal, event date, type and distance, experience, hours a week, training days, longest ride, the workouts you like or avoid, and your note of up to 200 characters), your FTP if you know it, today's date and the day you want the plan to start. No ride history is sent.
  • Change a plan: the plan you are changing and what you ask for (up to 200 characters). When you use Adjust my plan, the app also sends today's date, the plan's start date, which planned rides you have done or missed, and how each done ride felt if you said. It sends no other ride details.
  • Search my rides: your question (up to 200 characters) and today's date.

With every request the app also sends a random install ID, which is not linked to your name, an account or your advertising ID. Compo Turbo never sends your weight, heart rate or power readings, anything from Health Connect or Apple Health, your name, device or advertising IDs, or your location to the AI service.

Who receives it. Your request goes to the Compo server (a workflow server run for Compo, hosted on PikaPods in the European Union, in Germany or Finland). The connection is encrypted (HTTPS). The server passes your request to Claude, an AI model from Anthropic, and returns the answer to the app. Anthropic acts as our provider for this; see Anthropic's privacy policy. Anthropic does not use API data to train its models. It deletes the data automatically within 30 days, unless it must keep it longer to enforce its usage policy or to comply with the law.

What Compo keeps. Compo does not store what you send or what the AI answers: no requests, answers, rides, plans or text are written to a database or log. The server keeps a short session record for 24 hours (a hashed copy of the install ID, the feature, whether the session was paid for, and counters for the daily limits). It keeps cost totals for 90 days and longer-term daily totals that contain only numbers, with no install ID and no content. The workflow engine does not keep execution records beyond the few minutes a request takes.

Your choices. In the app, open Settings › AI:

  • Turn off AI features withdraws your consent. The app asks again before AI is used next time.
  • Forget my install ID deletes the install ID from your phone. A new random one is made the next time you use AI. The server's record of the old one is removed within 24 hours.

Reporting a problem with an AI result opens an email draft in your own mail app. It contains only the feature, the kind of error and the app version, and you can edit or delete it before sending.

07

Advertising

The only ads in Compo Turbo are short rewarded ads from Google AdMob. You see one only when you ask the AI to suggest a workout or to build or change a plan, which costs us money to run, and only if you choose to watch it with the Watch ad button. Searching your rides has no ad. If no ad is available, the AI request still works. There are no banner ads, and ads are never shown during a ride.

  • Consent first. In the UK, EEA and Switzerland, we ask for your consent before any ad is requested, using Google's consent form. It appears the first time you tap Watch ad, not when the app opens. Compo Turbo does not track you across other companies' apps and websites and does not show Apple's tracking prompt. If you say no, you may still see ads, but they won't be personalised.
  • What Google may collect. To show and measure ads, and to keep them working, Google may collect your device's advertising ID, your IP address (which gives an approximate location), how you interact with ads, and diagnostic information such as crash and performance data. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
  • The install ID. So Google can confirm you watched the ad, the app gives Google the same random install ID the AI features use, with the ad. It is not your name, an account or your advertising ID, and we don't link it to your advertising ID.
  • What ads never get. Your rides, heart rate, power, weight, FTP or any other health and fitness data.
  • Change your mind. You can change your choice at any time in Settings › Privacy & ads › Ad consent.

08

Workout updates and this website

The app doesn't download anything from compo-app.com: its workouts and routes are built in. Like most websites, our host (Vercel) keeps standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type and time of request, for a short time for security and to keep the service running. This website doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies.

09

What we don’t do

  • The app contains no analytics or tracking tools of our own. The only third-party code that collects data is Google's ad SDK, as described under Advertising.
  • We don't sell, rent or trade your information.
  • We don't track your location. Google may estimate an approximate location from your IP address for ads.
  • We don't share your ride or health data with anyone, unless you send it somewhere yourself or use the optional AI features. Heart rate and power readings, your weight and anything from Health Connect or Apple Health are never sent to the AI service.

10

Keeping and deleting your data

Your rides stay on your phone until you delete them. You can:

  • delete a single ride from its summary screen (DELETE RIDE);
  • delete your training plan from the plan screen (DELETE PLAN);
  • turn off the AI features or forget the install ID in Settings › AI (see AI features);
  • clear everything by uninstalling the app, or with your phone's Settings › Apps › Compo Turbo › Storage › Clear data.

Deleting a ride in Compo Turbo doesn't delete copies you've already exported, backed up or written to Health Connect or Apple Health. Manage those in the app or service that holds them.

11

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the use of your personal information, and to receive a copy of it. Because Compo Turbo keeps your data on your phone, you can do most of this yourself in the app. For anything we hold, such as a feedback email, contact us at admin@compo-app.com and we'll reply within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or to your local data protection authority.

12

Children

Compo Turbo isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has sent us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

13

Security

The app keeps your data in its private storage, which other apps can't read. It's protected by your phone's screen lock and encryption, so keep your phone locked and up to date.

14

Changes to this policy

If we change how Compo Turbo handles your information, for example by adding an optional connection to another service, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches the app.
